Hi there! Here is a continuation of my last post of ideas on how to get recruiters to work hard for you.
- Be Nice: Sometimes the most important
things are those that we learned at a very young age. If you yell at
the payroll clerk, the credentialer or housing coordinator, your
recruiter hears about it. We’re not always perfect, and we too raise
our voices sometimes, but if you treat people well, they’ll bend over
backwards for you.
- Fulfill Your Contract:
Sometimes bad things happen. If a client terminates your assignment
early, and if your recruiter asks you to fulfill your contract, there
are reasons for it:
- Your reputation
- The recruiter’s reputation
- Time to find a new assignment
- Ability to keep you on benefits
Your
recruiter has your best interest at heart, even if it means a temporary
glitch. Give a little; seek a win-win situation for everyone. Your
recruiter and the client will reward your commitment and flexibility.
- Send a Referral:
This is how we make a living&feed our families, and a referral is
the ultimate ‘Thank You’. Good people know good people. If you’re happy
with the service provided by the recruiter, or if you developed a good
rapport, send people our way. Give out your recruiter’s name and email
address. You instantly become a “rock star” in their office, and if you
refer lots of people, your wallet gets a little fatter too.
In
all, the most important thing to remember in order to get your
recruiter to work hard for you is to realize that s/he doesn’t make
money if you don’t find a job that meets your needs. We know you will
go elsewhere from time to time, but the best recruiters work tirelessly
so you won’t ever have to. The more money you make, the more great
assignments we can find for you, the better we do as well. We want to
find the perfect job for you. We’re on your team.

We enter 2009 with a lot of gratitude to all our Rehab Travelers who make us look good every day. Thank you for all you do!
I've been asked if we are seeing a slowdown in any segments of business. Overall Rehab Travel demand remains strong. We typically see a little slow down in December in highly desired areas like Florida and Arizona, but not the overall market.
This year MDI Medical (soon to be "Cirrus Allied Staffing") continues to grow in our client base. We have partnered as a preferred provider to one of the best Home Health companies in the industry. This allows us to provide you with the therapy jobs you want in the locations you want. Call us for Atlanta, GA or Chicago, IL positions that we are actively recruiting for. We also have opportunities in North Carolina and South Carolina.
In addition, MDI now has opportunities with facilities offering long term contracts: specifically the federal government and School Systems in great metropolitan areas
Call us for more info. I welcome your feedback.

Hello all,
Hope everyone had a great holiday season and new year and that you're eager to start 2009 traveling on the right foot. A few tips to know going into this new year:
1. Southern/Western parts of the US are the place to be, especially this time of year. Which is why those needs that do open up are filled quickly and that it's sometimes difficult to get to the "hot" areas for travel therapy jobs during the colder times of year. Use this time to follow the money! Positions in colder areas such as MI and WI tend to pay higher rates and sometimes large sign on bonuses during the winter months.
2. Early in the year is also a good time to stock up on things you'll need during the year such as CEU credits and more state licenses. Focusing on getting this taken care of early can only help the process along once things turn during the spring months.
3. Lastly, during this recession-like time, certain areas and settings may tend to hold back on utilizing travelers because of tight budget constraints. This is a good time to evaluate what your main reasons for certain areas/settings are and to tweak your rehab jobs search a bit. If you're really interested in a certain city or area, certain clients may pay less because they know the area sells itself and will bring in more local candidates. We will always be able to get you high rates, but getting both the area and the rate may not match up each time. So keep that in mind and let your recruiter know that depending on your hot button for this assignment, flexibility goes a long way in the process!
Until next time, happy travels.

It’s very common for therapists to experience difficulty determining when/where to take their next travel therapy jobs. Here are a few points to help determine where/when to take your next assignment:
- Location: When choosing location, ask yourself these questions. Are you looking for a warm or cold climate? Do you have some family in other states that you’d like to visit? Interested in seeing national parks or other tourist attractions?
- Money: Keep in mind that smaller cities tend to pay more than larger ones. Also, it can be difficult finding assignments in cities that have several colleges and universities in close proximity to facilities. Lastly, keep in mind that certain states may have more or less availability depending on the season. (I.e. Florida jobs will close quicker during the winter.)
- Licensure: It's definitely quicker to find an assignment in the state that you are licensed in. However, MDI Medical will assist you in obtaining licensure in other states. Be sure that aware of the licensure process for every state you are looking to work in.
Hopefully, keeping these points in mind will make the process of finding the right travel therapy jobs easier. Check back for more information on Allied Health jobs or feel free to contact me Juan Soto, at 678-993-2307. Until then…Safe Travels!

During the Christmas season, many choices had to be made; Bratz Dolls or Barbies...D-Rex or Pleo and most importantly, Xbox360 or Wii. Well, being the dad, I did what any normal dad would do, and said, "kids, go ask your mother."
For my wife it was easy..."We're getting the Wii," she exclaimed. I was happy she made this decision. I thought it was a great idea to get the gaming console that would force the kids to be active while they played. But that is not why my wife wanted to buy it. You see, my wife is a Physical Therapist and she, in her infinite wisdom, decided that a couple of times a week she would take the family Wii to work with her to help her patients. "Wow, what a great idea," I thought.
I decided to look it up online to see if my wife was a genius, or were there other therapists using the Wii as a therapy tool. I Googled "Physical Therapy Occupational Therapy Wii" and in less than a quarter of a second 14,900 pages came available. It seems Wii-habilitation has taken therapy by storm. Articles in the USAToday http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/2008-02-08-wii-rehabilitation_N.htm, Time http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1584697,00.html and LiveScience http://www.livescience.com/health/080209-ap-wii-therapy.html are just a few of the thousands of stories of how the Wii is being used to bring folks back to health.
Are there any therapists out there who read this blog who use the Wii for Wiihabilitation of their patients? Let us know your thoughts and we'll report back soon.
I hope all of the thousands of PT, OT and SLP Travel Therapists out there who read my blog religiously, had a safe and happy Holiday Season! Don't miss next week's blog "Who would win in a fight - An Allied Health Career Traveler or Godzilla?"
With Warm Regards,

Keep Those Old Medical Records…
If you are a traveling physical therapist, occupational therapist, or speech language pathologist, here are some credentialing tips that will help with those quick start travel assignments. The first thing that you want to do is ask your recruiter if there are any medical records that you will need for the assignment. This will keep the process moving and head off any hurdles, when trying to start a new assignment. Also, as a traveler, it is a good idea to always keep those medical records when you are given a copy. In some cases this will avoid you having to take certain medical tests over and again. Lastly, if you are waiting on a license to begin an assignment, make sure you follow up with the board. Sometimes, you may be missing documents that you are not aware of, and this will slow the licensing process. So follow these tips and contact me, Quincey Adger at Cirrus Allied Staffing, 678-993-2309, for your next travel assignment

Attention Traveling Therapist please be sure to obtain renters insurance to protect your belongings. Renters insurance is for anyone renting their place of residence. Having insurance protects your personal belongings from Fire, Theft, and vandalism. State Farm also suggests that renters insurance can help protect you in case of a liability incident.
Renters insurance is usually not much, depending on the coverage and deductible. Many times if you carry your auto insurance under the same company as your renters insurance they will give you a discount.
MDI Medical highly recommends for all Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and Speech Therapist to have renters insurance. When you are out on Travel Therapy Jobs we want you as well as your belongings to be safe.

Happy 2009!
We have a lot to look forward to in '09. First, you'll start to see our new name, Cirrus Allied Staffing, and new logo, more often. Secondly, a new database designed to streamline our processes. It fully integrates our entire employment lifecycle - from your application, to matching potential allied health jobs to your requirements, to interviews, to job offer, to credentialing&housing, to payroll & client invoicing. I'm very excited about it. (What you'll notice most is the ease of recruiters matching specific speech therapy jobs and other rehab jobs when you're on the phone.) You'll also have the ability to fill out applications and online forms.
Another change is integrating our payroll and accounting to our sister company, Cirrus Medical Staffing. Since our acquisition in July, payroll has been done 70% in Atlanta and 30% in Charlotte. This will flip-flop next payroll. You'll still send your timesheets to the same number. Your paychecks will still say "MDI Medical." Paychecks and paystubs will be mailed from the Charlotte office beginning next week.
Sadly for us, we have to say goodbye to Kathy Flagler. Kathy has been our payroll & accounting manager for more than a year now. Many of you have talked with her on the phone (especially when your timesheet was late!) Her contract ends in a couple of weeks, and she's transitioning her duties as I type. Kathy starts a new contract in a similar role with a national consumer magazine here in Atlanta. We wish her many successes. I'm sure she'll make as big an impact there as she did for us.

Hello Allied Health Care Travelers!
I have never blogged before, so I want to introduce myself. My name is Nikki, and I am a recruiter here at MDI Medical. Happy Holidays to all of our physical therapist, occupational therapist, and assistant travelers! With the New Year approaching I am trying to decide what my resolution will be, any ideas? Here are some things I have come up with:
1. Spend more time with family and friends
-Many travelers get the opportunity to do this all the time. Spend time in different cities all over the US.
2. Quit Smoking
-Everyone who works in allied health jobs should know what a big difference this one will make!
3. Get out of debt
-Our travelers are saving lots of money while we foot all the bills, right?
4. Help others
-That’s really what health care is all about!
5. Get organized
-Let us help.
-Be safe this Holiday Season!

A recent topic of conversation that has come across my desk recently has been what Traveling Physical and Occupational Therapists should and can do while they are away from friends and families for the holidays. This can be a sensitive topic for some and so I thought that offering ideas and suggestions might help:
Write down your new years resolutions: I have always made my mental list and declaration of my resolutions to others, but never really followed through with any of them before. I read an article that stated that if you write your resolutions down and keep the list visible throughout the year, that you will be more inclined to follow though. After reading that, I sat down last year on New Years Day and wrote out a list of practical resolutions and taped it on my fridge so I would see them almost on a daily basis. It really worked for me! I had met all 10 resolutions, and it has given me a great sense of accomplishment for the past year.
Volunteer: When in doubt and when I am feeling down about life in general, I have found that for myself, giving back to others in need has always set me right back to normal and back on track to gratitude. I have enjoyed it so much in fact that volunteering has been and will continue to be apart of my life.
Reach out to friends and/or family - Even if you haven't spoken in awhile and/or really don't want to make the call for whatever reason! A suggestion would be to just call and say "I was thinking about you and wanted to wish you a Happy Holiday." Sometimes even a quick message or quick phone call to someone can brighten their day in more ways than you can imagine.
Take a chance: Maybe you got a casual invitation from a neighbor in your apartment complex or a coworker at the facility to eat dinner with them. Take them up on it, even if you politely declined. Call them up and say that you reconsidered and would like to stop by even if it be for an hour or so. You might be surprised and actually have a nice time!
Relax: As traveling Physical and Occupational Therapists going to your next Travel Therapy Jobs, picking up and moving every few months can really wear on you physically and emotionally. Take the day and kick your feet up in some comfortable pajamas, watch your favorite movies with your favorite snacks. Take it easy on yourself. For me, just a little TLC can go a long way!
Happy Holidays!
