I just had a conversation with a traveler about how her physical therapy licensure process is coming for California.  CA is a difficult state and the process is sooooo slowwwwwww!

She is currently on her first assignment with us and was hoping to go to CA next.  She kept telling me (and her recruiter and her account manager) that the CA physical therapy board is only missing one document.  We have been looking for travel physical therapy jobs in the area she wants and I have been checking the CA website daily to see if her license was issued.  I came to find out today that she has not submitted the application, had her boards sent in, etc, etc, etc.

Maybe I was asking better questions this time.  Maybe she was giving answers that were a little more clear.  Either way- I'm not sure.  We were trying to get her to CA next month, but because she is not as far in the process as she originally told us it will probably be another few months before she is licensed.

We want to get you to the states you want to be in but we need to know that you are doing your part too- if you need help or have questions just ask!

When you are looking to work in a new state - and need to obtain a license first- be as upfront with where you are in the process as possible.  This helps us accurately guage your potential start date.

A state I don't hear much about is Delaware.  Below is information on obtaining licensure there...maybe you can take a travel therapy jobs there and fill me in on the state :)

You must submit the following to the Occupational Therapy board:

¨      Notarized application & fee

¨      NBCOT scores sent directly to DE board

¨      Transcripts sent directly to DE board

****** Important note: the Occupational Therapy board must review ALL applications at monthly meetings.  The meetings take place the first Wednesday of every month (they do NOT meet in August or December)*****

So anyone who keeps track of the MDI Medical blogs is probably scratching - or shaking- their heads right now.  How (and probably also WHY?) are there so many blog posts for June (or more accurately for June 30th)?

Well, I'm not gonna lie...we had a little contest going.  Whoever could post the most blogs (with material pertaining to our travel therapy jobs) for June would win.  I think Luke and I are still fighting for the bragging rights (yep, its 11:40pm on June 30th...if I can just get one more blog out I might beat Luke!)

This definitely started as a fun game, turned into a challenge, but has hopefully helped those of you in your Physical and Occupational Therapy as well as Speech Language Pathology careers.   We court then capture the best rehab therapists...and then challenge ourselves (in the same way we did this challenge) to find the best travel therapy jobs to meet your needs!

I hope that you found all our blogs entertaining or helpful in some way.  I promise we'll maintain the momentum (probably not 20 in one day but atleast a few a week).  Please keep reading and give any of us a call or post a comment if you have any questions or would like more information on anything you see on our site.

I look forward to working with you in your travel therapy jobs soon!

I figured that I have blogged about travel therapy jobs in Arizona enough that I should let you know about licensure there too!  It is not the easiest state.  Following are the requirements for Occupational Therapy licensure:

The paperwork that you must submit is:
-Application
-Fee
-NBCOT Verification- sent directly to AZ
-2 Professional recommendation forms with original signatures
-Completed fingerprint card (takes about 6-8 weeks to process)

The tricky part of the process is that the board has to meet to review all applicants.  They usually meet on the 2nd Friday of the month (all documents must be received one week prior to the meeting).

The link to the AZ website is: http://www.occupationaltherapyboard.az.gov/forms.html

I hope that you are able to secure your Arizona Occupational Therapy license soon.  Dry heat is great!

Some of our travelers are starting their summer rehab jobs and are already looking forward to where they want to travel in the fall I have heard Virginia mentioned a few times (winery tours, leaves changing colors, sounds nice huh?!).  so I looked into the process for one of our current Occupational Therapy professionals.

The VA process takes 6-8 weeks per the board.   Once a file is complete, it is reviewed which takes 3-5 days.  Once reviewed a license number is issued that day and an e-mail is sent out to applicant with license number so they can practice.  License should be received in the mail with in 7-10 days.
The forms that must be mailed in are:
-App and fee
-Certificate of education verification
-NBCOT score transfer report

Forms that can be faxed in are:
-Hospital Employment activity (basically 5 years of employment history verified)
-Jurisdiction clearance (all current and expired licenses)

Link to application: http://www.dhp.state.va.us/forms/medicine/OT/Instructions-application06-06.doc

Based on all the paperwork it seems like it should only take about four weeks to receive your Occupational Therapy license number.

Who knows...maybe I'll even come visit you there :)

Although you must have your Occupational Therapy license in hand to starting working in Texas it can be a quick process.  The Texas Occupational Therapy board processes licenses everyday and it usually takes no more then 5-7 business days to grant licensure to applicants.

You must submit the following to the board:

  • Application ( you can fill this out online)
  • Mail in fee and passport sized photo
  • NBCOT scores sent directly to TX
  • other state licenses sent directly to TX
  • JP exam (online and open book!)

Beware: licensure in California for Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants can take A LONG TIME!  The process and some helpful tips follow:

For your application to be considered complete you must submit:
  • Application (with photo) along with fee and sealed transcripts, and resume (all of those should be mailed together)
  • Verification current licenses (you are in luck! they will verify online if possible)
  • Score transfer from NPTE
  • California Law Examination
  • Sex Offender Questionnaire
  • Fingerprints
Processing of the fingerprints alone can take 6-8 weeks (unless you are in CA and able to utilize LiveScan...this is what I suggest!).  If you can not use LiveScan there is the possibility that your fingerprints might get smudged when they are mailed in.  The sooner you start the process the better :)

Under California law you can practice as a PTLA (PT License Applicant) for 90 days from the the day they receive you application, so you want your application to be the last form the Physical Therapy board receives.  I would send in the application about 3 weeks prior to your start date, to maximize the amount of time you can work as a PTLA.  This way you can even start work in CA, and then have LiveScan done there.

If you are leaving this holiday weekend to travel out of town or to your new travel therapy jobs in a new city...be careful!

I am driving from Atlanta to Nashville for the weekend and I am sure there will be all kinds of speed traps while I am on the highway.  I don't know about you- but getting a speeding ticket (or in an accident) doesn't put me in the right mindset for my vacation!

Be sure to stay with the flow of traffic and maintain the speed limit.  Don't rubberneck- it is not polite driving and causes accidents!

If you are traveling to your rehab jobs be careful on your way there!

If you are looking for premium pay and you are an Physical Therapist Assistant we have a home health position for you in North East Tennessee.

Don't forget if you have another current license you can start your physical therapy careers prior to the board meeting and granting you a license.

We here at MDI Medical would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest Account Manager RJ!  RJ will be staffing Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and Speech Language Pathologists.   RJ's territory is from Kentucky North and from the Dakotas East.

RJ loves to play hockey (I know- strange for Atlanta!).  He is a native of North Dakota, and has been living in Atlanta since 2003.  He once worked for a magazine and interviewed Donald Trump....be sure to ask about that experience!

If you are currently working with us at MDI Medical or thinking about travel therapy jobs, RJ will be working his territory hard to get you the rehab jobs you are looking for.
